Post Code, Region, City, Suburb, Street, Street numbers from-to or Building - you can indicate any of these as your selection criteria.

Sometimes it's a good idea to clarify what exactly you are looking for. For example Auckland CBD is a popular enquiry, but what is it exactly? Is it Queen Street from the Harbour to K'Rd or is it City, Newton, Grafton, Newmarket, Parnell and Ponsonby?
Can you spot the difference? Then be specific about what you need! In fact it's even more relevant now with Auckland's Super City, when enquiries are now coming as: Auckland without North Shore...

By Industry
If you understand ANZSIC codes - use them as a selection criteria.
If not, you can use whoiswhere™ industry definition with 17 key categories covering over 200 sub-categories.

By Number of Staff
1 to 4 staff, 5 to 19 staff, 20 to 49 staff, 50 to 99 staff, 100p+ are the key recognised categories.
Often we know the exact number of staff and often there are sub-categories. Remember many businesses have a lot on the go: contractors, part-timers, etc. Siometimes it makes it next to impossible to be precise - be mindful of that!

Because turnover is not something New Zealand businesses have to report, it is suggested to use number of staff as an indication of the size of the company. Smart marketers will understand that a 5 staff importing business may generate turnover equal to 10 -20 people in manufacturing. So be smart and use combination of industry and number of staff to be more precise about your target.

There is also a matter of head offices vs branches and number of staff nationwide vs number of staff in the branch. Which number of staff do you need?

Surely this may seem to be too complicated but the reality is - this perceived complication allows you to become a razor sharp marketer; this is the very essence which separates DIRECT marketing from MASS advertising; this is the very thing that makes direct marketing MORE profitable, because you have the opportunity to be very, very specific. And on this note, the more specific you want to be, the more you will have to invest in data. Just remember, your rewards will be much greater too!
